DJ is originally from San Antonio, Texas but moved to California in 2001 because he got “the big envelope” from Stanford University. In 2005, he graduated with a BA in Music, Science, and Technology (MST), which coincidentally, was the same year that Steve Jobs delivered his now famous commencement speech. Taking every word to heart, DJ has made a profession out of thoroughly exploring the road less traveled.
Highlights from his adventures include being a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines, working as an audio engineer in various recording studios, touring the world with a Nerdcore rapper (MC Lars), and opening a Waffle Sundae ice cream shop (Mr. Waffleton’s).
Along the way, DJ discovered a passion for helping others with personal finance which eventually led him into the world of Wealth Management where he worked for one of the Top 50 firms in the country. While the work was interesting in theory, the day-to-day wasn’t as fulfilling as he’d hoped. He felt there was more he could be doing to help people in a very real way. And that’s what ultimately led him to StreetCode Academy where he now serves as Manager of Strategy. “It’s so rewarding to see the impact of your work in people’s lives and in the community. There’s nothing like the feeling you get from helping others.”
Fun Facts
DJ loves scary movies. He’s pretty good at stacking credit card reward points and going on free trips (he hasn’t paid for a flight in years). He still enjoys personal finance and regularly provides 100% free financial coaching to anyone and everyone. If you have questions or concerns about money, click here to book a session!
