What Are Password Managers?
Password managers are exactly what you think they are, a platform or software that stores your password and automatically inputs your passwords when you attempt to log into a website. Every time that you create a new password, you can ask the password manager to save it and you can forget it since it remembers it.
Password Manager Options
You might be using a password manager without knowing it. If you are using Chrome and it offers to save your password, you have a basic password manager!
The current password manager that I personally use is Dashlane Password Manager. I’ve been using them for 5 years and have been enjoying it. Dashlane is on the expensive side, $59.99/year. They do offer a free version, however it is limited.
Another option is LastPass Password Manager. They are more affordable than Dashlane at $3/month, however, not all the same features are offered. They also have a free version as well.
There are many more password managers out there, however, the main feature that I recommend is the password sync option so that you can have sync your password between your devices (laptop, smartphone, tablets) and not having to update it on each one.
Note About Setting Up A Password Manager
One thing about password managers is the amount of work you have to first put into them. If you currently don’t have your passwords store with Google Chrome or another password manager, setting one up will take time.
The benefits of having a password manager greatly outweigh the cost of setting it up. It continues to save me time and save me the trouble of remembering passwords.
Password Manager is Set Up, Now What?
The first thing that you will need to do is CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS! Your passwords should all be different. Since your password manager should auto-log you in, you won’t need to know your password. Focus on the accounts you normally go into first and then move from there.
