Your retired devices have years of life left. Our students can use everyone of them.

StreetCode Academy lends donated laptops, tablets, and phones to students in East Palo Alto for a year at a time. Since 2020, more than 2,500 devices from Bay Area companies have found a second life here.

Why Bay Area companies donate to the Level Up Program

Keep devices local

Most of our partners are within 20 minutes of our HQ. Your devices stay in your community, with the students your team drives past on the way to work.

Skip the recycling fee

We pick up for free on your schedule. One contact, one form, one pickup. We handle everything after handoff.

Report real reuse

Every partner gets device counts and estimated pounds diverted from the waste stream for sustainability and community reporting.

Report real reuse

Volunteer at a class night, host a device drive, or visit HQ and meet the students using your devices.

What we accept

Laptops, tablets, and phones released in 2019 or later.

Working condition, wiped, and released from company management software. Chargers appreciated. The year floor moves forward each year, so in 2027 the minimum becomes 2020.

Desktops, monitors, and accessories are welcome at lower priority. They support our classrooms and community partners rather than the lending program, so we take them as space allows.

Not sure a device qualifies? Ask us. Send the make, model, year, and condition and we’ll answer within two business days.

How it works

Fill out the short form below, or email Quincy Sanders directly.

2

Your IT team wipes and unenrolls

Exactly what you already do before any device leaves the building. We don’t touch data, and we say so.

3

We pick up

At your site, on your schedule. Or drop off at our HQ on Capitol Ave in East Palo Alto.

4

You get the letter

An itemized IRS acknowledgment within seven business days, and an update on where the devices went in about 90 days.

Where your devices go

Every device is asset-tagged, lent for a year, then returned and lent again. One refresh batch of 20 laptops covers a full StreetCode class.

Common questions

Do you wipe the devices?

No. Donors wipe and unenroll devices before handoff, using the same process they’d use for any disposition. We can walk small teams and individuals through a factory reset.

Will I or my company get a tax receipt?

You’ll receive a written acknowledgment that meets IRS substantiation requirements, listing each item received. StreetCode doesn’t assign a value; your tax advisor can tell you what’s deductible in your situation.

What if a device is enrolled in our MDM?

It has to be released before pickup. Apple Business Manager, Intune, Jamf, and Google Admin can all release devices remotely. An enrolled device can’t be used by a student, so we’ll set it aside and ask your IT team to release it.

We already use a recycling or ITAD vendor.

Most of our partners do. Many vendors can route working 2019-or-newer units to a designated nonprofit after sanitization. We’re glad to coordinate directly with them.

Can our employees get involved?

Yes. Volunteer at a class night, run a device drive at your office, or bring a team to see the devices in use at our HQ.

Who do we contact?

Quincy Sanders, quincy@streetcode.org, (650) 485-1413. We reply within two business days.
